Price per hour = £20.

Before you can start your lessons you must have a valid provisional UK driving licence. You can obtain form D1 from your nearest Post Office then follow the instructions and send it off with your fee. Once you have received your licence you can book your lessons with AWS School of motoring.

To learn to drive you will need to be familiar with the highway code. We recommend that you buy the highway code now and start to learn it, this will help you when you start your lessons.

If you have never driven before we recommend you book a two-hour lesson first of all. After you have become familiar with the car your actual driving time will be well over one hour. The rest of your lessons will be based on your progress.

Recommended hours - A general guideline: -
10-15 hours – for pupils that have reached test standard or
recently failed a test.

15-20 hours – for pupils who have not driven for a while but
reached test standard or failed a test during
the last 12 months.

20-25 hours – for pupils that have not driven for 6 months but reached a good standard.

25-30 hours – for pupils who have recent experience of around 5-10 hours tuition.

35-40 hours – for complete beginners or for those who want to take their time to build up confidence.

Refresher courses - for those who passed their driving test a long time ago but have not driven since so need
to build confidence before taking to the road solo.

Of course each individual is different and some learners may need fewer lessons once they start the course and
reach a standard. This will be assessed once the course of lessons begins.

Payment is by the hour on a pay as you go basis or you can pay for a block booking for reduced rate.

Taking Your Test – Watch Out For Hidden Costs
If you are tempted to sign up with a school charging a low hourly rate, be sure to check for hidden costs such as Driving Test car hire fees.

Many driving schools will charge a very large fee for the use of the car for your driving test and this often comes
as a surprise to learners as it is seldom mentioned until the test has been booked. AWS make no additional
charges for using the car on the day of your driving test and the usual hourly rate applies.
